I first met this gentle man at Fairfax Hospital while working as a 'Rent A Boss' for them. Bob and I hit it off, right away. There was Caarlos, the Spanish technician who made us eat his 'Fish Head Soup'...... Fairfax Hospital decided to close their O&P department so Bob and I sat in a little bar in Annapolis one evening and 2 things happened.... 1st, we decided to go into partnership and second, we got really, really drunk! Well, that was the beginning of our long friendship. I remember a blizard where I borrowed his small pickup truck to get home and then turn around the next morning and drive to his house to pick him up to go to work! I watched his kids grow up and now there is a Grandchild. Bob, you will be missed a lot. I hope that you are looking down on your family and smiling. You did a wonderful job down here on earth. My last thought, if there is a way to dive and enjoy it up there, I am sure your tanks will never run out of air. so have fun!! I love you man........

Bob and the family moved across the street from us Rossons when I was 12 or 13 - so Bob must have been around 9 or 10? (I don't know, but Eileen and I started smoking when I was 13). We hung out together, did all kinds of bad kid things together (Halloween comes to mind). We had a blast. Tucker Avenue kids sort of grew apart during high school (I guess it wasn't cool to know each other walking down McLean High hallways). But many years later, my dad was in the hospital with a broken neck, and the doctor told us he'd have to have a halo brace screwed into his skull - then in walked this guy who looked so familiar. A split second later, the whole family realized - Holy Cow, its Bob! Well, I think my dad was the most surprised. He said, hey is this the little kid across the street - he's gonna screw this thing into my head! Are you kidding me! Anyway, that's how I'll remember Bob. The kid who screwed with my dad's head!
We always had a lot of fun with the Zimecki’s. Even though we only saw them once or twice a year when the kids were young, it was always a great time. I will always remember the time we all went to Fenwick Island, Delaware for a week long vacation in 1987. A small house filled with four kids (under the age of 6) and five adults. Sun and fun at the beach, crabbing in the bay, go carts across the street and also a trip to the Ocean City boardwalk. Then there are the memories of the 4th of July parties down in Herndon. Paper bags spread across a picnic table filled with crabs, cooked with Old Bay seasoning. And then there was Billy-well what can you say about Billy? Oh yea, and who was it that broke the basement window across the street with the giant water balloon sling shot?? No worries, Bob would talk to them when they got back from vacation. Maybe he could fix it in the meantime and no one would ever know. And why did you get pulled over by the Louden County police??? You were just looking at those deer, weren’t you?? Beer, what beer?? Lots and lots of laughs. Looking back at family pictures from our famous Memorial Day get togethers, I noticed something. Bob and John were in very few of those pictures. WHY??? Because they were always off somewhere fishing. The only pictures we do have of them are with their “catch of the day”. And if they weren’t off fishing, they were down at the Beaver Pond with Biscuit and Beau watching them chase after Jason’s remote control boat. These and many other memories will live on in our hearts forever. We love you and we’ll miss you Bob.
WHAT ABOUT BOB?!? He always made you laugh - ALWAYS!!!
I used to tell the "Roy Rogers" joke back in the late 60's , early '70's. Bob thought it was a riot and I still remember his laugh. I wearied of telling the joke, in general, but when I saw Bob he would encourage me to retell it. I would always do it because I loved the way he laughed. We lost touch over the years but I never forgot Bob, his laugh and his kind soul. So, Bob, if you run into old Roy , please ask him: "Pardon me Roy ,is that the catwhochewedyournewshoes ? "
